Our Projects
Advancing Budget Transparency and Accountability through Stakeholder Engagement
Between January to April, 2026, CBMT engaged key stakeholders to promote greater budget transparency and accountability by presenting research findings on public development financing to media representatives, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, and the Finance and Public Accounts Committee (FPAC) of the Gambia National Assembly. The research revealed significant gaps in the reporting of development funds, resulting in incomplete national budgets that limit informed decision-making, weaken parliamentary oversight, and reduce public access to accurate financial information. CBMT recommended full disclosure of actual budget figures, more comprehensive reporting of development financing, and stronger scrutiny of the Development Budget in line with the Public Finance Act. These engagements also sought to strengthen media reporting on public finance, raise public awareness, and enhance citizen oversight of government development spending.

Strengthening Democratic Governance through Public Participation - Funded by EU
In an effort to promote public participation and democracy in The Gambia’s national budget process, CBMT implemented the “Strengthening Democratic Governance through Public Participation” project with support from the European Union (UN), specifically targeting public participation at the budget approval stage to trigger civic influence on the National Assembly budget decision-making. Recognizing the urgent need for civic involvement in our national budgetary process, CBMT initiated this crucial project, which aimed to create opportunities for civic actors to participate in the 2026 national budget approval process, promote fiscal transparency, and increase awareness and public interest in the budget process.
